Summer Camp 2012

Schauber Stables, LLC offers a unique riding camp opportunity for children between the ages of 5 to 14. We also offer "counselor-in-training" program for children from the ages of 13 to 17 years.

Summer campers will be given an opportunity to attend camp for the entire day or a clinic for half a day.

SESSIONS

We offer eleven convenient summer camp sessions. Campers may sign up for full day sessions or half day sessions for one or more of the following weeks:

Session 11 - 09/04 to 09/07 (No camp on Sept. 3rd - lower rates apply)

At camp, campers are divided into small groups of riders (3 to 4) with similar riding ability and experience. Each day the campers have a group riding lesson. For campers who attend the full day camp, additional lessons may be scheduled if the weather and time permit. In addition to the riding skills the campers learn during their lessons, campers also learn other aspects of horse care including how to handle a horse on the ground, how to groom a horse, how to tack a horse as well as information about horse health care and nutrition. Campers also participate in a variety of barn chores including mucking stalls and raking the aisle! Campers may also enjoy other horse related activities such as making horse treats and learning how to braid a horse’s mane.

In addition to the horse back riding lessons and learning about horses, campers will also engage in a variety of arts and crafts. The arts and craft activities may include decorating a canvas bag, painting a horse sculpture, making jewelry, painting, decoupaging, experimenting with paper mache as well as painting (with tempera water paints) one of the actual lesson horses! Campers will also enjoy playing some season appropriate sports.

Campers will have the opportunity to take hikes, play volleyball, badminton, kickball and other sports. Different camp games may also be played including water balloon tosses, egg and spoon races, three legged races, sack races and "Dribble, Dribble, Drench" - the barn's version of "Duck, Duck, Goose." Just in case the campers didn’t get wet enough hosing the horses off, a sprinkler will be available for the really hot summer days!

Each camper should have a bathing suit and towel for the very hot days. A spare set of clothing can be left at the barn during the camper’s week. Sunscreen and bug repellant are also recommended.

Campers need long pants for their riding lessons. Campers will need appropriate footwear - ideally a boot with a heel. (The barn has many boots available for the campers to borrow.) No one may handle or ride a horse in sandals or open toed shoes. Campers may bring sneakers and other clothes to change into after their lessons. Campers should dress appropriate for the weather. A spare set of clothing can be left at the barn during the camper's week.

Campers should bring their own lunch and two snacks (a.m. and p.m.) to camp. Ice chests are available. We ask that our campers do not bring peanuts, peanut butter or other nut products in order to avoid potential allergic reactions for our campers with nut allergies.

Campers will be able to get out of the weather and relax in our lounge and our new Activity Center. The lounge has bathroom facilities, hot and cold water, a refrigerator, a microwave, a water cooler that dispenses hot and cold water as well as a table and chairs.

All campers are invited back during the summer to participate in any of our schooling horse shows. At the shows the campers will have an opportunity to demonstrate to their parents, friends and family members what they learned during camp. The riders will be evaluated by the judge and awarded a ribbon. (All children who enter the schooling show receive a ribbon in each class they enter.) Camp Hours

Full day: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

A.M. ½ day camp: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

P.M. ½ day camp: 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Before care is available from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

After care is available from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Camp Cost

Full day cost: $300.00 per week (except for Week 2 & 11 - which is $240.00)

Half day cost: $200.00 per week (except for Week 2 & 11- which is $150.00)

Before care cost: $15 a week

After care cost: $35 a week

Campers who attend for multiple weeks receive a 10% discount for sessions after their first session.

Unless other arrangements have been made, a non-refundable deposit of $100.00 should be mailed to the barn within 10 days of submitting your child's application. The balance (and any before or after care cost) is due on your child's first day of camp.

REGISTRATION

In order to register your camper you need to complete the camp application.
